SPECIALISED TRAINING MODULES

These separate programs provide focused instruction in a wide variety of specific topics. Each deals with a particular technique used in intelligence analysis. These programs may be taken at any time after analysts have completed either of the two mainstream training courses: entry-level analysis and strategic analysis training. The aim is to enable analysts to access training in these special skills and techniques that they require for their work whenever the need is recognised.

Content

Each of the specialised modules is designed to be conducted as a technical workshop, usually between one and five days duration depending on the topic. Some of these the modules are available as distance-based packages. Typical subjects include the following:

strategic research and analysis of issues at national and global level
statistical analysis and modelling for intelligence
computer training in application of analysis and visualisation techniques for intelligence
telephone traffic analysis
financial transaction analysis
application of intelligence to specific types of crime or non-compliance (for example, environmental crime, fraud, crime on the Internet)
pre- and post-operational intelligence briefing and de-briefing
geographic profiling of crime
civil and criminal law and their relationship with data protection and disclosure
data gathering and all-source/open-source (OSI) information collection
report writing
oral briefing/presentation skills
